Surgery Update

Everything went very well and the procedure was less invasive that originally planned by the doctors. They were able to clean up and correct the original surgery done in China. The doctors give her a very good prognosis and she should be able to live a completely normal life now which they felt would not have been possible before surgery. She is resting well on a low dose of morphine and slept through the night. She woke up long enough to say hi to Lau Lau and Pop Pop on the phone and ask for Lilly to get up up in the bed. The doctor upped our say to 7-10 days NPO (not food or water) which will be very difficult for her as food is such a motivator. Annalise is a typical orphanage kid that had food withheld from her. She doesn’t have a full meter and will eat until the food disappears. Well I guess it is gone for a while now. She woke up this morning asking for milk and pointing to my cup. I put them all in the bathroom and she got very upset and was pointing at the bathroom my new eating area. Here are a few pics from the morning before surgery. She met a little girl that has been in for quite a while and she showed her how to ride on her IV pole. Now we are surfing down the halls. The playroom is great and has lots of fun things to play with even plastic food. They say it’s therapeutic. We will go play eat latter.

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful emails and comments and most of all your prayers you all kept me going the last few days and with my new blackberry I can read them anywhere.

Wonderful news...it feels so good to ME to hear that so I can only imagine how you must feel. (Of course, except for that NPO part...sorry).

Yep...that pole surfing photo reminds me of Sophie last year.

Good job Miss A! You two were always on my mind as the babies kept me busy these past days.

What wonderful news! Glad to hear that the surgery went well. The IV pole ride is too funny and I'm sure Raegan will enjoy that. Good luck with the NPO ..I know that will probably be the hardest part of this experience.

Still praying for little Anni and for you.

Sophie was a pole surfer too:)

Glad things went well. You will survive NPO. Just can't have anything that holds food or water around or she will ask for it. I think another mom I know was allowed to give her daughter those little sponge sticks dipped in water. Sophie chewed on her toothbrush:)

You might get sprung earlier than the 10 days. They like to tell you that long and then be the super heroes when you get to leave sooner:) (like the aren't already...hello??)

What wonderful news! Everyone at special services I talked to was so pleased to hear the good news. Hand in there and get some rest...you look very tired too.

Our love and prayers,
Darlene, Brent & Bryce

P.S. Bryce wanted Annalise to get well quick - he remembers going to the hospital and remembers that when he was healed he felt MUCH better!

Paulette, I'm so happy to read that Annalise is on the other side and that the news about the surgery is so positive. It's great that you can now breathe a sigh of relief, but it will still be tough getting through the rest of the ordeal. Knowing that you can look forward to a good outcome will make it easier for you. For her, there is nothing like Mom's loving arms to help her through.

Love,

Mark
